BPC Laboratory Intake Manager - RI Tegmeier |   | The Biopathology Center (BPC) within The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) is a primarily grant-funded biorepository and clinical laboratory with the objective of acquisition and long-term storage of a large number of cancerous, normal, and diseased biospecimens and related data. These biospecimens are used for the purpose of supporting and facilitating cutting edge research and advancing clinical patient care. In accordance with provisions of approved protocols, the BPC serves as biorepositories for the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), NRG Oncology, SWOG (formerly the Southwest Oncology Group), the Pediatric Division of the Cooperative Human Tissue Network (pCHTN), Early-Phase and Experimental Clinical Trials (EET), and other sponsor groups. The BPC Laboratory Manager evaluates, plans, and implements the administrative, supervisory, and operational activities for assigned section team staff. Manages a team of laboratory professionals and support staff to ensure delivery of laboratory services relative to section. Provides leadership for complex programs by communicating goals and strategies, providing direction and priorities and providing enthusiasm and support.

The Laboratory Technologist is responsible for accurate and timely processing, testing and resulting. Additional duties include completing tasks, preventive maintenance, quality control and providing customer service. Each employee is expected to be a supportive link between laboratory customers and other areas within the department and project a professional image through telephone communication to internal and external Nationwide Children's Hospital customers.

The Lab Support Associate is responsible for providing clerical and general support to the Biospecimen Processing and Receiving Laboratory. Duties include, but are not limited to, transportation of specimens, providing effective communication with regards to specimens and collection information, and providing an appropriate link to other lab sections when needed. These biospecimens are used for supporting and facilitating cutting edge research and advancing clinical patient care. In accordance with provisions of approved protocols, the BPC serves as biorepositories for the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), NRG Oncology, SWOG (formerly the Southwest Oncology Group), the Pediatric Division of the Cooperative Human Tissue Network (pCHTN), Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN), and other sponsor groups. The BPC is a fast-paced, team-oriented environment that requires the ability to work well under pressure and maintain careful and constant attention to detail. The position requires frequent communication via phone and email with submitting institutions, internal coordinating laboratories, and external investigators/laboratories. This position serves as a supporting role to facilitate clinical testing and research on incoming and stored biospecimens and their related documentation (i.e., pathology reports, etc.). (This role does not perform hypothesis-based research on the biospecimens.) The Redaction Clinical Research Assistant’s primary responsibility is to support the activities of the BPC by ensuring appropriate handling of related and protocol-specific paperwork, which will frequently contain personally identifiable information (PII). This role includes, but is not limited to, screening and redaction of all incoming documentation, determining proper handling and dissemination of paperwork based on protocol requirements, compliance with HIPAA and NCH HIM policy, tracking of specimen-specific paperwork, including redaction status, organization and location of original documents, redacted and electronic versions of said documentation. In addition to redactions, this position may also provide general research support to collaborating team members and BPC leadership, as needed, including knowledge-sharing and cross-coverage with other BPC teams.
