The successful applicant will perform clinical research in Adolescent Medicine in accordance with provisions of the approved protocols; conducts research visits with patients, maintains records of clinical research activities, prepares progress reports, assists in analyzing data, and contributes to publications. The research assistant will work with a team that will support crucial activities under the direction of Adolescent Medicine providers, including Dr. Fareeda Haamid and Dr. Ashley Ebersole. Our research focuses on adolescent and young adult contraception and reproductive health. We are seeking a highly motivated individual interested in contributing to a positive clinical research experience addressing the contraceptive needs of young women. Our long-term goal is to understand pathophysiological mechanisms underlying systemic hypercoagulability, or thrombosis (the tendency to develop blood clots), within specific clinical disease states. The intent of this study is to identify biochemical and genetic markers that will prospectively define individual susceptibility to thrombosis in the clinical setting of adolescent and young adults initiating combined oral contraceptives. In addition, the successful applicant will also support a sponsored study investigation of the simultaneous detection and identification of several sexually transmitted infections.

Dr. Mitchel Stacy Lab  |   | A postdoctoral research position is immediately available within the Center for Regenerative Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital working in the lab of Dr. Mitchel Stacy. |   | Research in the lab is focused on the development and validation of quantitative imaging techniques that allow for characterization of cardiovascular diseases and vascular remodeling. Of particular interest is PET imaging of skeletal muscle perfusion and PET-based molecular imaging of vascular biology. |   | The lab utilizes multiple imaging modalities, which include clinical and microPET/CT, CT angiography, and ultrasound. The lab is equipped with a variety of image processing workstations, which include dedicated software for PET/CT image analysis, ANSYS for computational modeling research, dedicated tools for ultrasound image analysis, and a dedicated angiography workstation. Experimental work and training will be focused on pre-clinical models of vascular disease (small and large animal) and clinical cardiovascular imaging. This position is supported by a NIH R01 grant. |   | Read about Dr. Li's Research Program here: | Deqiang Li (nationwidechildrens.org)  |   | Research in my laboratory is focused on understanding the mechanisms of cardiovascular development, disease, and regeneration. In particular, we are interested in identifying the novel signaling pathways that regulate myocardial development or govern cardiomyocyte differentiation and maturation by using in vitro and in vivo approaches. |   | Cell and mouse model systems, including induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and conditional gene knockouts will be used in these research projects. Many state-of-the-art techniques are employed, such as CRISPR/Cas9 Genome Editing, AAV, single cell RNA-Seq and ChIP Seq, confocal microscopy, multicolor flow and sorting, surgical models, ultrasonic and telemetric measurements of cardiovascular function in mice.
