Overview
The Laboratory Technologist position for Anatomic Pathology involves responsibilities for some functions normally performed by the anatomic pathologists and pathologists’ assistants. Under the supervision of a pathologist, the technologist will assist with photography, and grossing of select surgical specimens; arrange tissue storage and provide support to autopsy staff. The technologist will function in support of and as an adjunct to the physicians and pathologists’ assistants in anatomic pathology. Routine, uncomplicated surgical dissection procedures are performed on tissue samples. These specimens can include core biopsies, small biopsies, bone marrows, curetting’s, gallbladder, appendices, gastric sleeves, hernias, incidental thymectomies, amputations for polydactyly. |   | Responsibilities require the technologist to work independently with minimal supervision; he or she must have exceptional organizational skills and motor skills. Independent decision making occurs frequently in day to day operation. Innovative procedures are occasionally necessary to accommodate the variety of samples prepared. Duties require working knowledge of anatomy, pathology, and histopathology. The technologist must maintain competency and keep current with changing techniques and requirements in anatomic pathology dissection. |   | The technologist maintains supplies, equipment and instruments and provides administrative supporting the day to day operation of the laboratory.
