Dr. Setty Magaña's Lab is accepting applications for a Post Doctoral Scientist. |   | Our team is part of the Center for Clinical and Translational Research (CCTR) at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, which exists to answer questions that will improve the early diagnosis, treatment and outcomes of society’s most important pediatric diseases by combining high-quality, fact-based lab discoveries and innovative patient-based research. |   | Our passion and vision is to rapidly translate research discoveries into lasting treatment options for pediatric patients afflicted with neurological disease. |   | The Magaña Lab bridges the clinic and the laboratory by utilizing a multidisciplinary and innovative approach to advancing the field of pediatric neuroimmunology.  Dr. Magaña’s clinical and research focus is on studying the age-span of multiple sclerosis—fetal and neonatal neurology (e.g. maternal-fetal epigenetic regulation of disease risk), as well as childhood, adolescent and adult neurology (e.g. epigenetic modifiers of disease).  Specifically, Dr. Magaña is interested in understanding how extracellular vesicles (EVs) mediate cross-talk between cells of the nervous and immune systems.  Specifically, we are interested in phenotypically characterizing EV repertoires and EV cargo (e.g. small noncoding RNA, lipids, proteins) and determining their utility as disease and therapeutic biomarkers. |   | We utilize human biofluids and tissue specimens to perform mainly ex vivo and in vitro assays.  EV methods include tangential flow filtration (TFF), size exclusion chromatography (SEC), single EV immunocapture; traditional and multiplex western blot, RNA sequencing, PCR, ELISA, microfluidic resistive pulse sensing, transmission electron microscopy, confocal microscopy. |   | The long-term goal of our research program is to shed light on the molecular and cellular underpinnings of pediatric MS pathogenesis and to identify intra-individual epigenetic and modifiable therapeutic targets that will allow us to establish precision nanotherapeutics. |   | Ultimately, the passion and vision of the Magaña Lab is to rapidly translate research discoveries into lasting treatment options for pediatric patients afflicted with neurological disease. |   | Qualified candidates will be asked for additional supplemental items including CV, a cover letter, references, and a one-page statement of research interests. |   | Keywords:Translational Neuroimmunology, Human-derived Biospecimens, OMICs Technologies, Extracellular Vesicle Isolation and Characterization, Noncoding RNAs, Biomimetic and Lab-on-chip, Microscopy, Omics & NGS, Epigenetic and Molecular Mechanisms of CNS Neuroinflammation, Multiple Sclerosis, Acquired Demyelinating Syndromes, Neuroinfectious Diseases.

Twice a year, our patients will return to our clinic for routine follow-up to see Neurology, Cardiology, Pulmonary, PT/OT, Nutrition, Social Work, Complex Care, Advanced Illness Management (AIM), and all associated diagnostic testing. Because our patients require care from a wide array of specialists, our nursing team serves as the glue of the multidisciplinary team. They are responsible for triaging communications (via Mychart, phone calls, faxes performing thorough chart reviews/assessments, high dollar specialty drug prior authorizations, completing medical equipment paperwork, assisting with patient procedures (such as lumbar punctures and muscle biopsies), and performing thorough chart reviews/assessments of patient needs. EEG Tech II Weekend Option |   | The Technologist (Technician) will perform a wide variety of polysomnogrpahy procedures on patients with suspected injury and disease resulting in a sleep disorder(s). The Technologist is responsible for preparation of the patient for testing, performing the study, and the collection of information pertinent to the interpretation of the test results. In addition, the technologist also shares in responsibility for patients in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). This responsibility is shared with the EMU technicians. The Technologist must demonstrate competence defined (*) in Polysomnography Technologist responsibilities in providing age-appropriate care to patients from the age of birth through 21-years, and selected adult patients.The incumbent will also assist in the Sleep Clinic.
