Research Assistant - Resaerch Institute Gene Therapy Flanigan |   | The Flanigan Laboratory in the Center for Gene Therapy is dedicated to the discovery and clinical translation of new therapies for the muscular dystrophies and degenerative diseases of the brain. Specifically, the lab works on cutting-edge gene therapies for neuromuscular and neurologic disorders, including AAV gene replacement and gene editing strategies. The lab is looking for a Research Assistant to join an energetic and innovative team to carry this mission forward. This position will work primarily but not exclusively with microscopy and image analysis involving mouse and human tissues. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with fluorescence microscopy and image processing and quantification, but further training will be provided. Experience in standard histological techniques, including tissue sectioning and immunofluorescence staining, is a plus. This position performs research experiments and clinical studies in accordance with provisions of the approved protocols; maintains records of experiments and prepares laboratory reports; assists in analyzing data and preparing publications. Other general duties will ordering laboratory supplies, providing general laboratory support, and ensuring research experiments and laboratory analyses are performed in accordance with specific guidelines.

Senior Research Association - RI Gene Flangan |   | The Flanigan Laboratory in the Center for Gene Therapy is dedicated to the discovery and clinical translation of new therapies for the muscular dystrophies and degenerative diseases of the brain. The lab is looking for a Senior Research Associate to join an energetic and innovative team to carry this mission forward. The ideal candidate will have experience in Western blotting in mouse and human tissues, especially muscle, and general laboratory experience in handling DNA, RNA, and protein for analytic and experimental methods. Because much of the lab’s work is directed toward preclinical development studies, willingness and experience in the writing and use of detailed standard operating procedures, with compliant documentation, is required. This position will specifically be responsible for the implementation of a capillary Western immunoassay technology that is new to both the lab and to the Center for Gene Therapy. With this responsibility, this person will develop and validate new protocols for the study of muscle protein expression in both human and animal tissues, and will be responsible in training and collaborating with other investigators through the Research Institute. This position will coordinate closely with laboratory and Center for Gene Therapy staff who are developing novel immunofluorescent methods for quantification of expression of dystrophin and related proteins in muscle. Other general duties will include training and supervising activities of junior technical and professional employees engaged in laboratory research; ensuring research experiments and laboratory analyses are performed in accordance with specific guidelines; and participating in the preparation of grants and manuscripts.

Research Associate - Research Math - Dr. Malerba's Lab |   | Conducts research within a general area decided upon in conjunction with a Principal Investigator; prepares position papers and research reports; assists in the preparation of scientific publications and research grant proposals; prepares budget proposals for conducting research studies. The Malerba Lab at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute Battelle Center for Mathematical Medicine in Columbus, Ohio is looking for a new Research Associate. The lab focuses on brain rhythms, especially during sleep, and their role in cognition (memory and motor skills). We are looking for a detail-oriented, adaptable and curious mind, who has graduate-level training and at least one year of experience working in a research lab. The position (initially for one year, with possible extension tied to lab funding) will be centered on high-level quantitative EEG analysis and simulations of neural network dynamics related to ongoing research projects. Demonstrated proficiency in programming (Matlab and python) is required, and so is interest in how brain dynamics is tied to behavior. Some neuroscience training is desirable. A small part of the position will be to screen and coordinate research subjects for participation to ongoing studies, hence timeliness and people skills are necessary. The Research Institute at NCH is a collaborative interdisciplinary environment, that strives to apply the most modern knowledge to challenging questions with high impact. The Malerba lab is part of the Center for Mathematical Medicine, and contributes to the Chronic Brain Injury collaborative at Ohio State University and the Neurodevelopmental Research Interest Group at NCH. We have collaborations at local, national and international level and are developing strategies to introduce brain dynamics during sleep to the toolbox of medical interventions.

Biorepository Medical Lab Assistant - RI Biop EII |   | The Biopathology Center (BPC) within The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) is a primarily grant-funded biorepository and clinical laboratory with the objective of acquisition and long-term storage of a large number of cancerous, normal and diseased biospecimens and related data. These biospecimens are used for the purpose of supporting and facilitating cutting edge research and advancing clinical patient care. In accordance with provisions of approved protocols, the BPC serves as biorepositories for the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), NRG Oncology, SWOG (formerly the Southwest Oncology Group), the Pediatric Division of the Cooperative Human Tissue Network (pCHTN), Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN), and other sponsor groups. This is a fast-paced, team-oriented laboratory that requires the ability to work well under pressure and maintain constant attention to detail. The position requires frequent communication via phone and email with submitting institutions, internal coordinating laboratories, and external investigators. This role does not perform hypothesis-based research on the biospecimens – we serve a supporting role to facilitate clinical testing and research. The Biorepository Medical Laboratory Assistant is responsible for providing clerical and patient care support, especially in specimen handling and processing, as assigned. May perform any of the following depending on work location: specimen accessioning and data verification; specimen handling and transport to facilitate clinical testing and clinical trials; performing laboratory or equipment maintenance; maintains inventory of various laboratory and operating supplies. Perform waived laboratory testing. The Biorepository Medical Laboratory Assistant will be a supportive link between Nationwide Children’s Hospital laboratory customers and other areas within the Laboratory. The work has the potential to have long-lasting positive impact on our pediatric patient population and help NCH to achieve best outcomes in care delivery. The Data Scientist position will be part of a team of highly capable Data Scientists and Analysts, most having MS or PhD degrees in academic disciplines related to analytics or computer science. The Data Scientist will contribute to the implementation of a cohesive, powerful, and actionable long-term Data Science strategy involving the analysis of large complex nephrology and urology data sets to discover hidden patterns, trends, and associations in support of research, operational, and clinical objectives. The Data Scientist will partner and consult with NCH stakeholders to identify opportunities to apply advanced analytic solutions, understand requirements, translate requirements to analytical problems, and provide effective data analytic solutions. The successful candidate will work primarily on data science projects involving important research to improve kidney and urinary tract care delivery and associated health outcomes. This work will be performed in close collaboration with pediatric nephrology and urology clinicians and faculty at NCH. The candidate should be able to leverage both structured and unstructured data sets to create analytical solutions using tools and/or methods in at least one of the following areas: statistical and predictive modeling, machine learning, natural language processing, and geospatial analysis. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively and efficiently manage data analytics projects. The candidate must have exceptional verbal and visual communication skills suitable to all levels of internal NCH stakeholders and external audiences. The ability to tailor communications to both technical and non-technical audiences will be particularly important. The IT-RI division of NCH’s Information Services department has a diverse and dynamic portfolio of clinical informatics research projects in a wide range of application areas including clinical decision support, population health, and business operations. These projects are highly collaborative and involve partnering with physicians, researchers, clinical informatics specialists, IT professionals, application designer/developers and administrators, both internally and externally. The solutions developed draw on IT-RI’s strong capabilities in statistical modeling, machine learning, natural language processing, information retrieval, statistical genomics, data mining, and big data management and analytics. IT-RI deploys solutions across a variety of platforms from desktop to server to social mobile & cloud (SoMoClo) applications.

The Business Operations Coordinator will be responsible for providing support primarily to the Business Manager and BPC Business and Project Development Director. The Business Operations Coordinator will assist with administrative functions including invoicing and other grant financial management activities. The position will coordinate data from various sources and generate reports for the department and/or sponsor groups. Proficiency in working with Microsoft Excel and data compilation are essential to this position. A science or health care background is preferred; this position requires an understanding of biospecimens and laboratory operations. An understanding of research funding mechanisms or financial management experience is preferred. Attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills are essential to the success of this position.
