Post Doctoral Scientist- Center for Regenerative Medicine | Full Time, Benefit Eligible |   | We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist- this position is available within the Center for Regenerative Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital working with Dr. Mitchel Stacy. Research in the lab is focused on the development of non-invasive medical imaging techniques for evaluation and characterization of cardiovascular diseases and regenerative medicine scaffolds. Of particular interest is imaging of quantitative perfusion, vascular inflammation, and vascular remodeling. The lab utilizes multiple imaging modalities, which include SPECT/CT, PET/CT, CT angiography, ultrasound, and MRI. Experimental work and training will be focused on pre-clinical and clinical imaging of vascular diseases, tissue-engineered scaffolds, and diabetes, with particular emphasis on medical image processing methodology. Imaging research will be completed through collaborative efforts between The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Candidates should be highly motivated with an interest in pre-clinical and/or clinical imaging.

Research Assistant- Center for Injury Research and Policy | Full time: Main Campus; Mon-Fri 8 AM – 5 PM |   |   | We are seeking a Research Assistant- The Center for Injury Research and Policy contributes to the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) as one of only eight pediatric hospital reporting sites among a network of 100 hospitals nationally. More than 20,000 children are treated for an injury in the emergency department at Nationwide Children's Hospital annually. The NEISS Research Assistant (NRA) is supervised by the NEISS Program Coordinator (NPC). The primary duty of the NRA is to extract data from the medical records of children who are treated for an injury in the Nationwide Children's Hospital emergency department and enter these data into the NEISS/ NEISS All-Injury Program database during weekdays according to established protocol. The NRA assists the NPC with this responsibility. The NRA also analyzes data and prepares responses and reports for the CPSC and PI. The NRA assists the NPC and PI in the preparation of reports, publications, educational materials, and grant proposals using NEISS data. The position requires highly detailed work, near 100% accuracy, and sensitivity to time requirements established by the CPSC. Data are transmitted to the CPSC from Nationwide Children's Hospital daily. These data are analyzed by researchers at the CPSC, Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children's Hospital, and elsewhere. Information gathered from the NEISS allows estimation of the number and types of injuries treated in hospital emergency departments nationwide and provides evidence for public awareness campaigns, consumer product safety standards, and product recalls as needed.

The Zhao lab is using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, and functional genomics (single-cell genomics) to study the molecular and genetic mechanisms of cardiovascular development and congenital heart disease (PNAS 2017, PMID: 29203658; Circ Res 2017, PMID: 29030344; Stem Cells 2020, PMID: 32232889). The goal of the Zhao lab is to elucidate the cause-consequence relationship of a given genetic variant in regulatory elements (such as enhancers) in the contribution of cardiovascular disease using patient-derived iPSCs that retain all genetic information of the patients. |   | This is a great opportunity for young investigators who aim to establish an independent academic career in the next few years. Successful candidates should have a PhD/MD or equivalent degree (< 1 year after graduation) and should have solid expertise in cardiac physiology, cardiac development, and stem cells. Candidates with at least two first-author research articles published in the major peer-reviewed journals are required. Candidates must have the ability to write manuscripts and grants independently. This is a fast-paced, team-oriented laboratory that requires the ability to work well under pressure and maintain constant attention to detail. The position requires frequent communication via phone and email with submitting institutions, internal coordinating laboratories, and external investigators. This role does not perform hypothesis-based research on the biospecimens – we serve a supporting role to facilitate clinical testing and research. The Biorepository Medical Laboratory Assistant is responsible for providing clerical and patient care support, especially in specimen handling and processing, as assigned. The Malerba Lab at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute Battelle Center for Mathematical Medicine in Columbus, Ohio is looking for a new Research Associate. The lab focuses on brain rhythms, especially during sleep, and their role in cognition (memory and motor skills). We are looking for a detail-oriented, adaptable and curious mind, who has graduate-level training and at least one year of experience working in a research lab. The position (initially for one year, with possible extension tied to lab funding) will be centered on high-level quantitative EEG analysis and simulations of neural network dynamics related to ongoing research projects. Demonstrated proficiency in programming (Matlab and python) is required, and so is interest in how brain dynamics is tied to behavior. Some neuroscience training is desirable. A small part of the position will be to screen and coordinate research subjects for participation to ongoing studies, hence timeliness and people skills are necessary. The Research Institute at NCH is a collaborative interdisciplinary environment, that strives to apply the most modern knowledge to challenging questions with high impact. The Malerba lab is part of the Center for Mathematical Medicine, and contributes to the Chronic Brain Injury collaborative at Ohio State University and the Neurodevelopmental Research Interest Group at NCH. Post Doctoral Scientist- Center for Gene Therapy | Full Time, Benefit Eligible; M-F- 8AM-5PM |   | We are seeking a Post Doctoral Scientist- The Bradbury Laboratory is dedicated to understanding disease mechanisms and developing therapeutic approaches for rare, pediatric neurodegenerative disorders. Advances in adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors have led to safer and more efficient viral vehicles to deliver therapeutic transgenes in a single injection, and gene therapy is now a favorable therapeutic intervention for monogenic diseases. A primary focus of the Bradbury lab is improving AAV targeting of myelinating cells, a current limitation of AAV, in order to advance therapeutic outcomes for leukodystrophies and other white matter disorders. The Bradbury lab is translational in nature with a commitment to safely and efficiently moving therapies into the clinic for rare, pediatric disorders. In particular, we are looking for someone with experience in molecular biology (cloning, qPCR, IF, WB), as well as mouse experience (breeding, behavioral testing, injections, and dissection). Background in gene therapy and/or neuroscience is preferred but not required. The applicant should be highly interested in translating therapies for pediatric genetic diseases and should be eager to learn and work on the bench in an independent manner. The job description includes, but is not restricted to performing research experiments, maintaining detailed records of experiments, preparing laboratory reports, analyzing data and preparing publications and grant applications.
