JOB POSTING – Post Doctoral Scientist || Zhao Lab – Center for Cardiovascular Research   | Full time; 1.0 FTE | Main Campus, Columbus, OH |   | Specialty: Human iPSCs/Cardiovascular Development |   | We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Scientist  -  A postdoctoral scientist position is immediately available in Dr. Mingtao Zhao’s laboratory in the Center for Cardiovascular Research at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital/Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The Zhao lab is using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, and functional genomics (single-cell genomics) to study the molecular and genetic mechanisms of cardiovascular development and congenital heart disease (PNAS 2017, PMID: 29203658; Circ Res 2017, PMID: 29030344; Stem Cells 2020, PMID: 32232889). The goal of the Zhao lab is to elucidate the cause-consequence relationship of a given genetic variant in regulatory elements (such as enhancers) in the contribution of cardiovascular disease using patient-derived iPSCs that retain all genetic information of the patients. |   | This is a great opportunity for young investigators who aim to establish an independent academic career in the next few years. Successful candidates should have a PhD/MD or equivalent degree (< 1 year after graduation) and should have solid expertise in cardiac physiology, cardiac development, and stem cells. Candidates with at least two first-author research articles published in the major peer-reviewed journals are required. Candidates must have the ability to write manuscripts and grants independently. Candidates who have additional expertise in bioinformatics or CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing or tissue engineering would be preferred. |   | The Center for Cardiovascular Research currently has a NIH-funded T32 postdoctoral program to provide interdisciplinary, translational, and state-of-the-art research training in congenital and acquired heart disease, partnered with The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Research Associate- Research Injury | Full time Exempt: Main Campus; Mon-Fri 8 AM – 5 PM |   | We are seeking an individual to join the research team of the Center for Pediatric Trauma Research (CPTR) and the Center for Injury Research and Policy (CIRP), Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Using a multidisciplinary approach, CPTR researchers lead innovative projects to assess pre-hospital emergency medical service, acute medical and surgical management, rehabilitation, and family and community services that impact the short and long-term outcomes of injured patients. This position will involve direct research participant interaction with children as well as adults both in person and over the phone. Possible duties may include: review medical charts to identify potential participants; assembling and sending recruitment materials and research surveys via postal mail or electronically; participant recruitment both face-to-face and over the phone; describing the study to families and guiding them through the informed consent process; collecting data over the phone, and in person at Nationwide Children’s Hospital or at the Ohio State University Medical Center; organizing completed surveys, and entering data into a computer database; maintaining participant files and tracking progress throughout study participation; making recommendations about refinement and/or replacement of study procedures. These biospecimens are used for the purpose of supporting and facilitating cutting edge research and advancing clinical patient care. In accordance with provisions of approved protocols, the BPC serves as biorepositories for the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), NRG Oncology, SWOG (formerly the Southwest Oncology Group), the Pediatric Division of the Cooperative Human Tissue Network (pCHTN), Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN), and other sponsor groups. This is a fast-paced, team-oriented laboratory that requires the ability to work well under pressure and maintain constant attention to detail. The position requires frequent communication via phone and email with submitting institutions, internal coordinating laboratories, and external investigators. This role does not perform hypothesis-based research on the biospecimens – we serve a supporting role to facilitate clinical testing and research. The Malerba Lab at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute Battelle Center for Mathematical Medicine in Columbus, Ohio is looking for a new Research Associate. The lab focuses on brain rhythms, especially during sleep, and their role in cognition (memory and motor skills). We are looking for a detail-oriented, adaptable and curious mind, who has graduate-level training and at least one year of experience working in a research lab. The position (initially for one year, with possible extension tied to lab funding) will be centered on high-level quantitative EEG analysis and simulations of neural network dynamics related to ongoing research projects. Demonstrated proficiency in programming (Matlab and python) is required, and so is interest in how brain dynamics is tied to behavior. Some neuroscience training is desirable. A small part of the position will be to screen and coordinate research subjects for participation to ongoing studies, hence timeliness and people skills are necessary. The Research Institute at NCH is a collaborative interdisciplinary environment, that strives to apply the most modern knowledge to challenging questions with high impact. The Malerba lab is part of the Center for Mathematical Medicine, and contributes to the Chronic Brain Injury collaborative at Ohio State University and the Neurodevelopmental Research Interest Group at NCH. We have collaborations at local, national and international level and are developing strategies to introduce brain dynamics during sleep to the toolbox of medical interventions.
