Overview
This position is initially going to be a hybrid of bench science and lab administration. The position will be approximately 50% lab based and performing experiments in general support of the lab research goals, likely assisting multiple members of the lab. The position will also be responsible for directing the day-to-day management of the Stottmann Lab. They are responsible for assisting the PI and Stottmann lab members in the implementation and performance of translational research. They are responsible for resource and protocol management of the research unit. This position will interact closely with the PI and assist in regulatory compliance of clinical and laboratory studies. This position works with investigators and lab staff to implement and maintain best research practices, manage funding, foster efficient and productive relationships with other groups, and interface with multiple NCH/RI departments/cores to coordinate efficient research efforts. As the candidate grows into the role and becomes fully integrated into the lab, the balance of duties may shift towards more full time experimentation or administration, pending fit of the candidate.

We are seeking a postdoctoral scholar for a position to join Dr. Sriram Vaidyanathan’s lab at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University. Our lab is in the Center for Gene Therapy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH). The NCH Center for Gene Therapy has a long track record of training leaders in gene therapy, has been the site of the development of the first FDA-approved AAV-mediated gene therapy for neuromuscular disease (SMA). |   | Our lab is focused on the development of genetic therapies for cystic fibrosis. The development of CRISPR/Cas9 over the past decade has enabled the development of precise genetic therapies for diseases such as sickle cell disease and thalassemia. The Vaidyanathan laboratory is investigating the use of CRISPR/Cas9 based genome editing to treat CF and other diseases affecting the lungs. This position presents the opportunity to further develop airway cell therapies utilizing CRISPR/Cas9 based gene editing methods and study airway stem cell biology. |   | With guidance from Dr. Vaidyanathan, you will be responsible for leading an independent project that addresses our shared interests in validating airway cell therapies using animal models and aligns with your career goals. Your responsibilities will include designing and performing experiments, mentoring students/technicians (if desired), analyzing and presenting your results and conclusions, generating figures, and writing and publishing manuscripts. The Wein Lab is focusing on Neuromuscular Disorders such as Duchenne Muscular dystrophy, which is a devastating disease leading to death of patients at age 20-30 years. Our lab developed an expertise in translational research, an emerging field which can be summarized as understanding the cause of a disease and learning from it in order to develop innovative therapeutic strategies. We are fully committed to continuing to integrate basic science and gene therapy skills in order to advance understanding and treatment of the muscular dystrophies. Our lab’s long term projects focus on RNA and DNA editing and gene transfer as therapies for neuromuscular disorders, as well as furthering fundamental research on muscle function. In particular, our lab uses the most recent technologies such as virus-mediated exon-skipping and the CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing tool. | We are looking for a highly motivated research associate  who is energetic and intelligent to join our dynamic team. In particular, we are looking for someone with expertise in molecular biology (qPCR, IF, WB), as well as handling mouse colonies, mouse injection and dissection experiences to collect all muscles and peripheral organs. Experience in mounting muscle tissue is preferred. No background in gene therapy is required, however the candidate should have a high interest in human genetics and diseases and should be eager to learn and work on the bench in an independent manner. Finally, our team relies on good teamwork and therefore, the candidate should be a good communicator and team player.
