Responsibilities

  • Conducts continuing education for all NCH staff members in fire and safety including site specific education (i.e. Homecare PICU/NICU etc.) for unit staff
  • Collates and analyzes statistical data on safety
  • Conducts monthly safety rounds and follow-ups on all NCH off campus facilities
  • Conducts quarterly joint comission environment of care rounding
  • Assists the Safety Director in conducting routine as well as requested safety inspections on NCH main campus
  • Responds to requests for all issues relating to safety
  • In conjunction with Employee Health Services and Epidemiology conducts TB respirator fit tests for all NCH staff and related agencies
  • Under the direction of the Safety Director, advises staff on issues relating to OSHA and various regulatory agencies
  • Attends meetings relevant to issues of safety at NCH
  • Conducts monthly checks on facility extinguishers
  • Conducts fire and abduction drills throughout the main campus and assists program managers and site coordinators with the same at the off sites
  • Conducts investigations and follow-ups from workplace injuries in campus and assists program managers and site coordinators with the same at the off sites.

 

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a health and safety related role
  • Associates Degree in Healthcare Safety, or Environmental Safety, Fire Science desired
  • Experience with hazmat/hazwoper, desired


Required capabilities:

  • Customer, peer and AHJ relationship skills
  • Communications of all types
  • Knowledgeable in high rise firefighting methodologies, along with a thorough knowledge of codes relating to NFPA 101 Life Safety, Joint Commission, OSHA and the Ohio Fire Code
    Microsoft office suite
  • Stable performance under pressure or opposition and handling stress in a positive way
  • Ability to absorb and manage change
  • Scheduling flexibility
  • Desired capabilities: Hospital and/or related institutional experience; Understanding of Ergonomics and body mechanics as it relates to workflow and work processes

    The shift will be Mon - Fri starting at 5:00 am but candidate must be flexible as he/she will be expected to work during emergencies or urgent events. 

    MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time as well as lift 25-30 lbs. Must possess sufficient dexterity to operate computer related equipment. Must be able to climb ladders and navigate through construction areas safely
