Associate Planning Consultant

 

The Associate Planning Consultant position provides training through a learning environment in the Planning and Business Development Department at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, a private nonprofit pediatric teaching hospital. The Associate Consultant is provided with opportunities to develop skills in strategic planning, business planning, fundamental planning and analyses, and off-site facility development. The Associate Consultant will work with the Data Resource Center, Budget and Financial Analysis, Regional Development, Medical Staff, Administration, and employees at all levels across the hospital. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, quick to pick up new skills, use feedback and self-directed training to enhance professional growth, and has an interest in strategic planning and business development.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Planning
o Lead and/or assist with production and evaluation of institutional and programmatic strategic plans, including plan development, objective measurement, and identification of implementation steps.
o Assist service line leaders and other departments in creating a vision and strategic objectives that align with the organization’s strategic plan.
o Complete strategic analyses for development and tracking of the organization’s strategic plan and individual objectives therein.

• Business Planning
o Lead and/or assist in the development of business plans for new services and/or initiatives supporting a variety of new and/or existing programs with multi-disciplinary groups.
o Conduct quantitative and qualitative research, conduct market research, project volumes, identify resources required and provide implementation guidelines.
o Work with Budget and Financial Analysis to develop financial analysis and forecast for business plans.

• Fundamental Planning and Analyses
o Design, develop and maintain planning and business development documents and reports in a succinct, graphic dissemination of information.
o Perform research and develop analyses of external and relevant services, creating service line, benchmarking and competitor market assessments.
o Maintains knowledge of appropriate resources and tools, including but not limited to, planning monthly reports, census data, consulting and national association tools and reports (e.g. CHA), QlikView, etc. o Carries out special projects for PBD management and/or NCH Administration.

• Off-Site Facility Development
o Assist or serve as “owner representative” for off-site facility development, both new construction and tenant finish in lease/owned space. This includes coordinating the business plan, collaborating with administration and clinical staff to determine facility needs, managing the RFP and selection

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

 

Education: Recent graduate of master’s program. Possible fields of study include Health Information Management, Hospital/Health Administration, Business Administration, or other related field.

Skills:
• Familiarity with data management systems, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
• Communication and organization skills to effectively interact with medical staff, consultants, external professionals, administrators, and employees at all levels. There is significant contact with all levels of the organization, outside vendors and community representatives.
• Ability to convert ambiguity into a framework for advancement of work product and deliverables.
• Intellectual curiosity and strong attention to detail.
• Self-motivated and a willingness to seek out learning opportunities.
