Overview

Great job/hours for a student - Note that students are expected work as scheduled for at least one year, without exception.

0.4 FTE, Day shift hours, 8a-4:30pm every Saturday and Sunday. May be able to flex for additional M-F hours.

Minimum pay: $18/hour - pay to commensurate with experience.

 

The Family Hospitality Room (FHR) Liaison assumes primary responsibility of assisting families with services provided in the FHR. The liaison assists all families by providing amenities, information, and sustaining an environment that is comfortable and supportive while their child is receiving healthcare services. The liaison also coordinates and collaborates with clinical areas in planning and implementing an optimal family experience.

Responsibilities

1. Maintains the FHR as a welcoming respite for visitors by providing amenities such as current reading materials, clean toys, diversional resources, and fresh amenities.

2. Arranges for cleaning and repairs with appropriate departments.

3. Interacts with families incorporating active listening skills. Refers families to appropriate care team members/leadership, or Patient/Family Relations when concerns fall to their purview.

4. Facilitates services by fielding concerns and questions families may have; provides information and directions regarding: a. Supportive services b. Ronald McDonald House c. Room assignments d. Clinical Services

5. Assists in developing and implementing strategies for program growth.

6. Assumes other projects and assignments as deemed appropriate by the Program Manager.

7. Assists families with use of resources including computers, lockers and vending.

8. Assists mothers with use of breast pump equipment. Contacts Lactation Consultants as needed.

9. Identifies and implements strategies for improving quality of family experiences with Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

10. Identifies opportunities for volunteer involvement; trains, supervises and recognizes the contributions of volunteers assigned to the FHR.

11. Seeks information about diversity and is culturally sensitive to the diversity of families and other customers, upholding Children’s customer service in developing programs, interactions, and providing services.

12. Orients new personnel.

13. Pursues own personal growth opportunities by identifying learning needs, attending in- service programs, and sharing experiences. Seeks resources for direction, when necessary.

14. Performs duties in a manner that meets Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s mission, values, and vision.

15. Performs in accordance with Hospital/PACU policies and procedures.

16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

 

High school graduate or equivalent.

 

Licensure:

 

State Tested Nursing Assistant strongly preferred.

 

Certifications:

 

Current CPR (BLS for healthcare provider required).

 

Skills:

 

1. Sound written and verbal communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

2. Demonstrated basic computer skills.

3. Must demonstrate competence as defined in the Patient Care Assistant responsibilities/skills checklist in providing age appropriate care and services to pediatric patients of all ages and selected adult patients.

4. Displays a positive presence and interacts with all levels of staff, outside vendors, consultants, and physicians.

 

Experience:

 

One year of comparable experience in a hospital setting within the past 3 years. Nursing students can qualify if they have successfully completed the fundamentals of nursing course(s) of an approved college/school program.

 

Minimum Physical Requirements:

 

Occasionally, 1-33% of the time: Climb stairs/ladder; sitting; lifting/carrying 41-60lbs, 61-100lbs, +100lbs with assistance. May come into contact with fumes, gases, vapors, biohazard waste, machinery, and power tools.

 

Frequently, 34-66% of the time: Squat/kneel; reaching above shoulder; repetitive arm and hand use. Lifting/carrying 040lbs; pushing/pulling 0-61lbs; depth perception-vision. May come into contact with blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases or pathogens, chemicals, and electricity.

 

Continuously, 67-100% of the time: Standing, walking, audible speech, speech clarity and hearing acuity. Color vision, seeing far/near.
