The Behavioral Health Youth Crisis Stabilization Unit (YCSU) Clinician is responsible for providing intensive, short-term, evidence-based treatment to patients who are experiencing psychiatric/behavioral health crises. The YCSU Clinician will work as a member of the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive psychiatric/behavioral health treatment to youth admitted to YCSU. The goal of treatment on the YCSU is stabilizing the crisis and improving functioning of the youth and family system by utilizing interventions to focus on the crises for the individual and the family. The Crisis Services Clinician I practices under supervision while working towards goal of independent licensure.

• The Crisis Services Clinician I implements and supports the philosophy, mission, values, standards, policies and procedures established by Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Behavioral Health Crisis Services and Ohio Licensure requirements. 
• The Crisis Services YCSU Clinician I perform Assessment, Treatment, Care Coordination and other responsibilities as outlined below:
  • Diagnostic Assessment/Risk Assessments
  • Provides relevant and timely diagnostic assessment of patients
  • Accurately evaluates and documents client presenting problems, history, symptomology, mental status and diagnosis
  • Competently assesses risk for lethality and engages in thorough safety planning
• Treatment Planning
  • Collaborates with client/family to assist in developing specific, realistic, and measurable treatment goals and objectives for treatment.
  • Recommends disposition for level of care, utilizing case consultation and staffing, as appropriate
• Evidence Based Interventions
  • Employs strategies of intervention that are consistent with empirically supported treatments and consistent with program expectations.
  • Incorporates trauma-informed care philosophy, practices and strategies in all interventions.
  • Utilizes appropriate intervention including individual and family psychotherapy, crisis intervention, de-escalation and safety planning to increase patient/family functioning.
  • Maintains productivity expectations as identified by program and promotes patient access to care.
• Care Coordination
  • Effectively coordinates client care with other service providers and community resources to assure continuity of care.
  • Places referrals and maintains knowledge, understanding of resources both internal and external to this agency.
• Documentation
  • Completes clinical documentation and other related administrative paperwork in accordance with policy and program standards.
  • Reviews patient electronic medical record to assist and inform patient treatment.
  • Maintains organized and current records, in accordance with designated program procedures.
• Participates in Continuing Education and Training
  • Remains current in required licensure, with continued progress toward independent licensure, including, obtaining continuing education consistent with licensing requirements
  • Attends Behavioral Health and Nationwide Children’s Hospital trainings, as appropriate
  • Remains current in research and knowledge of competencies related to the treatment of behavioral health crises and assessment of lethality risk.
  • Attends in-service trainings, engages in peer review and other intra-agency and supervisory      activities.
• Engages in Supervision
  • Practices within professional areas of expertise and under the supervision of an      independently licensed practitioner
  • Participates in regular clinical and professional supervision meetings (including Live Supervision of treatment)
  • Meets regularly with Clinical Lead Supervisor, Clinical Coordinator/Program Manager, or supervisory designee.
  • Demonstrates willingness to seek/accept direct supervision, as well as, respect productive feedback from colleagues and others.
• Works within multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Provides multidisciplinary collaboration between all members of the treatment team to facilitate and coordinate quality patient care in a timely, cost effective manner.
  • Functions well in a team environment while contributing positive support to colleagues and peers.
  • Participates in patient care related rounds to inform treatment and enhance collaboration of multidisciplinary team.
• Meetings
  • Attends routine staff meetings (including quarterly All-Staff Meetings, Case Review meetings) and other meetings as assigned.
• Miscellaneous
  • Strives to maintain positive patient experience
  • Utilizes Family Centered Care and trauma informed care perspective throughout engagement with patients, families and multidisciplinary team.
  • Engages in special projects which benefit Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Crisis Services or the YCSU Program
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Clinical Coordinator or Administrator. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

The Behavioral Health YCSU Clinician II position requires an individual who is motivated, flexible, knowledgeable and innovative. The Crisis Services Clinician I will possess the skills to provide interventions in a flexible and adaptive manner, with strong critical thinking skills.  This individual will competently provide culturally appropriate trauma-informed interactions and interventions in a hospital setting. 

• Current Counseling, Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy Licensure in the State of Ohio
• Masters from an accredited university or professional school of Counseling, Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy;
• Demonstrated skills and abilities in providing and managing behavioral healthcare to children, adolescents and families; ideally would have experience utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing interventions with youth and families.
• Ability to engage in critical thinking
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, peers, community representatives and other multidisciplinary providers.
