Overview

The Project Manager will oversee the implementation of a newly funded initiative aimed at integrating and advancing sarcoma-related clinical care and research across multiple Departments and Centers within the Abigail Wexner Research Institute and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. This individual will become familiar with programs and personnel in the Division of Hematology, Oncology, and BMT, the Center for Childhood Cancer, the Department of Orthopedics, and others and will become the primary face of both new and established programs aimed at advancing the care of patients with sarcomas. This person will need to lean on strong interpersonal and organizational skills as they oversee projects that span grants, projects, clinical trials, Divisions/Centers, and offices. The role of the Project Manager is to assist in the implementation, monitoring, and communication of complex projects. In addition, the position assists with strategic planning activities, budget forecasting, group facilitation and other staff functions.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assume administrative responsibility for the agenda of the interdisciplinary Sarcoma Accelerator program, including implementation and oversight of multiple new inter-departmental projects.
  • Attend group meetings for sarcoma research labs within the Center for Childhood Cancer, Department of Orthopedics, Department of Hematology, Oncology, BMT, and Clinical Research Office and become familiar with the work being done in each group.
  • Attend clinical meetings for the Sarcoma Oncology, Orthopedic Oncology, and Surgical Oncology teams and become familiar with the patients who traverse these disciplines.
  • Identify opportunities to link specific clinicians with researchers and vice versa as shared interests and projects evolve.
  • Coordinate activities of sarcoma-related research program and personnel across multiple departments and disciplines.
  • Works as support to clinical research office to identify patients eligible for clinical trials.
  • Become familiar with surgical schedules and identify patients enrolled in clinical trials who are undergoing procedures.
  • Work with Pathology colleagues to develop systems for identifying tissue from surgical procedures performed on patients enrolled in clinical trials and for shepherding surplus specimens to the appropriate research entities in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the implementation of a patient-facing second opinion referral portal and coordinate the assessments necessary to complete those referrals.
  • Take a lead role in conducting Accelerator team meetings, develop follow-up and implementation plans, and track assignments and progress.
  • Monitor budget and forecasts for program expenditures and processes.
  • Develop progress reports relating activities of the program to administration and funding agencies.
  • Develop working relationships with internal and external compliance and regulatory personnel.
  • Coordinate the development and evolution of key IRB and IACUC protocols, as necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation of clinical trials protocols and grant proposals.
  • Carry out special projects as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration, logistics engineering, project management, or biomedical science. Master’s degree preferred.

Skills:

  • Excellent skills in writing, communications, coordination, public presentation, and graphics required.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills to effectively interact with medical staff, consultants, external professionals, administrators, and employees at all levels. Significant contact with medical staff, outside vendors and community representatives.
  • Knowledge/skills in process improvement, budgeting, forecasting preferred.
  • Knowledge of biology/medicine is essential (e.g., bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is minimally required).

 

Experience:

  • Three or more years’ experience. Experience managing multiple simultaneous projects preferred.
