Overview

The IS Applications Senior Systems Analyst is responsible for analyzing business needs, defining requirements, developing solutions, implementing systems, and managing installed applications in support of the Business/Clinical applications at Nationwide Children's Hospital. The IS Applications Senior Systems Analyst will have a thorough understanding of applications and database in a complex client/server architecture. A Senior Systems Analyst provides mentoring and leadership for the Applications team through a thorough knowledge of business and healthcare operations and supporting technology, and project management.

 

This is a full time, first shift, benefits eligible position. This position is hybrid, with occasional in office work when needed.

Responsibilities

Systems Analysis and Support

  • Plans, designs, develops, tests, implements, and supports information systems to meet organizational needs.
  • Provides customer service to define business needs and translate those needs into system functionality requirements.
  • Provides analysis on system design specifications and system/product evaluation.
  • Provides system coding and programming as required.
  • Develops and implements data queries and reports as needed.
  • Creates and maintains high quality system, report, and interface test scripts.
  • Assures data integrity and system survivability by developing and maintaining Disaster Recovery plans for the identity management systems, understands and approves back up procedures, business continuity/high availability, tests DR plans and system restores, and maintains current data in DR databases and tools.
  • Assist to determine and defines necessary budget items to support assigned systems.
  • Coordinates IS resources for project and operational support.
  • Develops system documentation.
  • Provides effective user training and support.
  • Provides troubleshooting, problem analysis, debugging, and resolution of assigned system issues.
  • Performs system updates, patches, service releases, and upgrades as needed.

IS Operational Support

  • Utilizes IS Operational support systems to include the Help Desk, Change Control, Problem Management, source and version control, and other systems as required; leads the development of these systems through feedback and analysis, and assists in enforcing the support and use of these systems throughout IS.
  • Builds and maintains vendor relationships to ensure products and/or services meet the business needs and objectives of the Hospital.
  • Works to minimize systems outages and the effects of outages on Hospital users by scheduling
  • needed system downtimes to provide minimal disruption of service to users, proactively monitoring and analyzing system performance to proactively detect and resolve production system issues, and performing stringent system testing before implementing new solutions or system changes.
  • Sets the example for providing fiscal responsibility in the use of Hospital resources by designing, implementing, and maintaining solutions to best utilize those resources in areas of responsibility.

Project Management

  • Applies project management principles, industry best practices, and IS Project Management Office (PMO) methodologies to all assigned projects.
  • Leads teams on large, complex projects involving cross-functional departments, high impact to customers, and large budgets.
  • Leads project scope development, project status reporting, schedules project execution, manages vendor performance and customer expectations, and facilitates meetings.
  • Interacts closely with the PMO for planning and status reporting.
  • Supports and helps to develop the IS PMO.

Information Assurance

  • Knowledgeable of and adheres to Nationwide Children’s Hospital policies, processes, procedures, standards, and guidelines governing privacy, security, and disaster recovery/business continuity.
  • Develops, implements, and/or maintains systems following IS Information Assurance policies, processes, procedures, and guidelines and industry standards to address security, privacy, and disaster recovery/business continuity needs to protect Nationwide Children’s Hospital information and resources at established, defined levels.
  • Actively protects sensitive, classified, and confidential information.
  • Uses and accesses systems and information only for authorized purposes and in accordance with security procedures and guidelines to perform job duties as assigned.
  • Maintains individual accountability for security controls and measures (e.g., individual passwords are not shared with other users).
  • Reports suspected security and/or privacy incidents following established Nationwide Children’s Hospital procedures.
  • Follows established procedures to conduct reviews and audits of systems and information for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains systems to keep information and resources secure and safe from known vulnerabilities to include updating applications and systems with security patches and code updates, applying appropriate virus protection, and testing changes before placing into production environments.
  • Assists Information Assurance staff in the development and refinement of Information Assurance standards, policies, procedures, processes, and guidelines.

  • Sets the example and provides leadership when working with other IS staff in functional or cross-functional teams to meet goals, objectives, and responsibilities.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • At least 7 years' experience providing systems analysis support required. Experience in health care environments preferred.
  • Bachelor Degree in related Computer Science areas or equivalent experience required.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules to meet job requirements; requires occasional after-hours support and overnight travel.
  • Strong problem solving ability to understand highly complex systems and articulate details both verbally and visually
  • Exceptional presentation skills required to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  • In depth working knowledge of application functionality and integration between desktop clients and servers, including applications, databases, storage, and web services
  • Excellent understanding of ITIL processes with regard to build, enhancement, and maintenance of Application systems
  • Advanced understanding of database systems, Oracle, SQL, Access Database structures
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills required to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft desktop and server platforms, including but not limited to design, installation, configuration, optimization, and administration
  • Quantitative and Qualitative requirements gathering, evaluate technical detail, and data validation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  • Excellent project management skills required with a minimum of 4 years project management experience.
  • Basic understanding of hardware device and/or operating system capabilities of Linux/Unix systems for vendor discussions and/or technology interface capabilities
  • Expert skills in use of PC desktop applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Ability to understand network topology and remote connectivity options and functionality within an enterprise architecture
  • Working understanding of OSI model inter-relationships as it relates to Application performance and functionality
  • Advanced understanding of all Technology hardware and interfaces as it relates to Healthcare Medical, Business, and/or Clinical systems
