Research Associate - Research Childhood Cancer - Lee

 

Conducts independent research within a general area decided upon in conjunction with a Principal Investigator; prepares position papers and research reports; assists in the preparation of scientific publications and research grant proposals; prepares budget proposals for conducting research studies. The Research Associate is responsible for supporting the laboratory’s translational and basic research in the use of immune cells for cancer therapy and NK cell biology. Applicant should have expertise in basic cell and/or molecular biology laboratory techniques.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts independent research studies and laboratory analysis as directed by the principal investigator and according to cGLP. Such experiments may involve the use of laboratory animals or human subjects any may require evening and/or weekend duties. 
  • Routine laboratory support, maintenance, and supply management. Orders supplies needed to conduct research; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; and assures that research equipment is in good working order. 
  • Function as Laboratory Safety Officer, maintain laboratory safety records. Implements and maintains quality assurance processes.
  • Maintain computer databases for lab resources such as document control, freezers, refrigerators, and animal colonies. 
  • Instructs other laboratory workers and students in standard methods, practices, procedures, and equipment operations.
  • Process clinical research samples following cGLP and HIPAA compliant procedures.
  • Assist in the development of new lab procedures, and establish SOPs for those procedures. 
  • Breeding and care of mice; development and implementation of mouse experiments. 
  • Conduct background literature reviews related to research. 
  • Collects and analyzes data in accordance with appropriate statistical procedures, and prepares reports, inclusive of figures and tables, of the results of studies.
  • Develop timelines and allocate resources to meet those timelines (personnel, equipment and supplies). 
  • Evaluate current procedures and recommend changes to improve efficiency. 
  • Assists other lab members with writing and presentation of technical reports and presentation materials.
  • Interacts with other collaborating researchers.
  • Attends scientific conferences and gives scientific presentations.
  • Prepares budget proposals for supplies and equipment, monitors study.
  • Maintains a clean working area and performs general laboratory maintenance. Adheres to proper safety techniques and procedures.
  • Performs miscellaneous related duties as required.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Master of Science degree with one to two years of laboratory research experience or Bachelor of Science degree with two to three years of laboratory research experience.
  • Must be able to use research methods in generating and collecting data and analyzing the data for report preparation. 
  • Must be able to develop complex position papers and reports, and help in preparation of research grant proposals and scientific publications.
  • Must be computer literate.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Note frequency as Constantly (67-100%), Frequently (34-66%) and Occasionally (0-33%) for each requirement.
  • Also note any lifting requirements with pound limit.
