Overview

Research Assitant - Research Childhood Cancer 

 

Performs research experiments and clinical studies in accordance with provisions of the approved protocol; maintains records of experiments and prepares laboratory reports; assists in analyzing data and preparing publications. The Research Assistant is responsible for supporting the laboratory’s translational and basic research in the use of immune cells for cancer therapy and NK cell biology. Applicant should have experience in some basic cell and/or molecular biology laboratory techniques.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Routine laboratory support, maintenance, and supply management. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; Orders research supplies; Maintains research equipment. 
  • Maintain computer databases for lab resources such as document control, freezers, refrigerators, and animal colonies.
  • Process clinical research samples following cGLP- and/or HIPAA-compliant procedures.
  • Assist in the development of new lab procedures; establish SOPs for lab procedures; train new lab members in lab procedures.
  • Conduct literature reviews related to research. 
  • Perform experiments, collect data, and analyze data with appropriate statistical measures. 
  • Prepare reports of experimental results, inclusive of figures and tables. 
  • Assist other lab members with writing and presentation of technical reports and presentation materials.
  • Interact with other collaborating researchers.
  • Attend scientific conferences and give scientific presentations. 
  • Maintain a clean working area and perform general laboratory maintenance. 
  • Adhere to proper safety techniques and procedures.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field of science from an accredited college. 
  • At least 6 months of prior relevant laboratory experience.
  • Coursework/experience in cell biology, immunology, genetics, and statistics.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Duties Frequently- Bench research, analyzing data Laboratory management- ordering, inventory, database upkeep, or other shared lab duties
  • Occasionally- Processing or analyzing clinical samples
  • Attending seminars and lectures
  • Preparing data for summaries, presentations, meetings
  • Miscellaneous administrative paperwork
  • Activities Sitting, computer work – Frequently Public presentations – Occasionally
  • Walking to and sitting at meetings – Occasionally
  • Finger dexterity – Constantly Talking / hearing / seeing – Constantly Lifting / carrying weight 0-20 pounds for 1-5 minutes – Occasionally Kneeling / reaching – Occasionally
