Family Advocacy Clinician 1- Community Responce Advocate (Domestic Court)

Full-Time

The Community Response Advocate works independently in the Family Protection Center (FPC) of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division to assist adult survivors of violence who seek Civil Protection Orders (CPOs). The advocate participates in a multidisciplinary team approach to care providing advocacy, support, and case management. Driving required.

• Works alongside court clerks and Capital University Legal Clinic attorneys located in the FPC providing assessment, safety planning, support, and referrals to community resources. Collaborates to provide wrap around support to survivors engaged in the criminal justice system.
• Orients survivors to the civil justice system by explaining civil proceedings, effects of having a CPO in place, and protection order violations. Contacts survivors prior to their CPO final hearing, provides court support, and any follow-up contacts relating to case status, information, and terms and conditions of civil protection orders. Communicates as necessary to troubleshoot CPO service issues.
• Creates and implements the Hope Card procedures with the FPC Supervisor.
• Collaborates effectively with the interdisciplinary team to identify, assess, and report suspected family violence as required by law, with particular attention to risk reduction and prevention. Maintains positive working relationships with Center staff, DR Court personnel, and community partners.
• Participates consistently in clinical supervision, peer review, staff meetings, and quality assurance processes. Provides and documents clinical practice in accordance with TCFSH, Joint Commission, funding agency requirements, safety standards, and other appropriate standards.
• Provides in-service training on interpersonal violence as requested. Demonstrates the appropriate use of advocacy and psycho-educational support interventions when working with adults who have experienced interpersonal violence. Supports and partners with TCFSH Adult Services advocates for additional resources and housing needs.
• Manages subpoenas effectively and provides court testimony as appropriate. Maintains an environment of safety for clients, self, and others and supports patient safety initiatives.
• Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development by participating in proactive goal setting, maintaining appropriate licensure, and participating in education/training opportunities.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to: Clinical Lead Supervisor- Advocate Supervisor

Knowledge, skills and abilities required

1. Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, or related field preferred.
2. At least 2 years' experience working with family violence victims.
3. Knowledge of interpersonal family violence and treatment interventions to respond to adults presenting with these concerns.
4. Demonstrates awareness of diversity issues and provides culturally sensitive services to clients.
5. Knowledge of community systems that support an effective response for victims of interpersonal family violence.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers, and to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
7. Maintains reliable transportation, and both an acceptable driving record and automobile insurance, with acceptable coverage for business driving/transporting of consumers, in accordance with NCH policies.
8. Ability to manage confidential information in a complex hospital environment and community settings.
