We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Scientist -This position is in the Center for Clinical and Translational Research. We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral scholar to join our NIH-funded lab group that is investigating mechanisms of liver fibrosis and novel therapeutic platforms. Fibrosis is the production and deposition of excessively large amounts of collagenous scar material in the interstitial spaces. This process can occur in virtually every tissue or organ of the body and is most often a response to chronic injury. Pathways of fibrosis involve multiple cell types which communicate in an orchestrated fashion by various intercellular signaling networks. Our team has a special interest in the role of extracellular vesicles (e.g. exosomes) in driving fibrotic pathology in the liver and the study of their molecular payloads to understand mechanistic aspects of cell-cell communication.
The work will involve fibrosis models using cultured liver cells as well as diet- or toxin-induced liver disease in mice. Proven competence and experience is required in cell biology, molecular biology, rodent disease models isolation of primary cells, and cell culture. Prior experience in exosome biology (isolation, purification, bioassays etc) and proteomics/genomics would be very advantageous.
With guidance from the Principal Investigator, you will be responsible for working on projects that address our shared interests and aligns with your career goals. Your responsibilities will include performing experiments, determining the next steps, developing and implementing new and existing protocols, analyzing and presenting your results and conclusions, generating figures, and writing and publishing manuscripts.
The selected candidate must be professional, self-motivated, and dedicated, with strong communication and interpersonal skill sets that will fit our team. You will have many opportunities to learn new skill sets, present your work, develop professionally, and contribute to a deeper understanding of fibrosis biology in a dynamic and positive environment.
