Post Doctoral Scientist - RI Peri Britt

 

The lab is seeking a highly motivated and well-trained postdoctoral scientist who is looking to expand their skill set and expertise while performing basic and translational research in the area of lung physiology and immunology. With an interdisciplinary and highly collaborative environment, our research is centered on understanding the pathophysiology of airway diseases including asthma and COPD. Notable areas of focus include airway smooth muscle physiology corticosteroid resistance, and aging. Studies will be conducted using primary human cell cultures and mouse models of lung disease. In addition to standard molecular and biochemical techniques, technical expertise in one or more advanced techniques in cellular and molecular biology, such as proteomics (Mass spectrometry), next generation sequencing (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq), flow cytometry (cell sorting), or fluorescence and confocal microscopy (live cell/tissue imaging) is desirable. The successful candidate is expected to perform experiments, work independently, publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and apply for extramural funding. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to develop his/her own research and career interests. Prior experience in lung-related fields is not required, as all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply. The position will be supported by intramural and extramural funds of the Principle Investigator. The Postdoctoral Scientist appointment has a maximum of 5 years in length.

Responsibilities

  • Design experiments, develops protocols, and independently performs research activities towards peer reviewed publications and extramural funding.
  • Helps to train and supervise technical support staff in performing specific techniques essential to carrying out the research program.
  • Records and analyzes data generated by the research study and helps to plan future research endeavors.
  • Prepares scientific and technical papers from the results of the research work.
  • Publishes papers in scientific journals relevant to the field. Presents findings at local and national research venues.
  • Facilitates collaborates with other ongoing research efforts either at NCH and/or The Ohio State University.
  • Works toward research independence.
  • Prepares to submit proposals to and obtain funding from external granting agencies.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

 

Education:

  • MD, Ph.D, Pharm.D., or equivalent degree.

Experience:

  • Necessary technical skills in the appropriate area of research.
  • Ability to do technical writing, and good communication skills.
  • Perform research independently

    • 10% Recording and analyzing data generated by research study
    • 10% Preparing scientific and technical papers
    • 5% Preparing grants
