The Brain Rhythms Laboratory, led by Dr. Paola Malerba, is looking for a Research Assistant. Duties will include conducting human subject research as part of the PI research program, data management, preparation of position papers and ensuring that research experiments and analyses are performed in accordance with specific guidelines. This position will require flexibility of work hours to accommodate scheduling of visits during evening and weekend hours. Opportunities exist for mentorship and professional development for applicants who are interested in gaining experience that will prepare them to apply for advanced graduate programs, particularly in neuropsychology and related disciplines.

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Conducts research studies and analysis as agreed upon with a principal investigator.
  • Sets up research experiments and arranges from subjects to be used in research experiments through appropriate procedures.
  • Collects and analyzes data in accordance with appropriate statistical procedures, and prepares reports, inclusive of graphs, tables, and photographs, of the results of studies.
  • Independently leads data collection efforts for research studies both in a lab environment and in participant homes.
  • Prepares position papers about research studies including information about difficulties encountered in setting up and conducting research studies.
  • Assists in the preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals with regard to methodologies.
  • Serves as a resource person for other investigators in collaborative studies that involve the PI, and contributes to technical training of other research personnel.
  • Prepares budget proposals for supplies and equipment needed to conduct research.  Monitors study expenditures to assure that budgetary constraints are followed.
  • Performs miscellaneous related duties as required.


What Are We Looking For?

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field (psychology, neuroscience).
  • Previous human subject experience; those with experience in EEG acquisition and neuropsychology are encouraged to apply. 
  • Experience in working on research or other projects involving direct contacts with families and children.
  • Experience scoring sleep studies acquired with polysomnography is preferable.
  • Experience in working on research or other projects involving direct contacts with families and children
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and problem-solve effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with research participants, supervisors and coworkers.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for use in off-site data collection.
  • Ability to use research methods in generating and collecting data and analyzing the data for report preparation.
  • Ability to develop complex position papers and reports; and help in preparation of research grant proposals and scientific publications.
