Decision Support Sr Analyst - PFK



The DRC Decision Support Analyst is responsible for the querying, summarization and dissemination of data. The position requires work with Planning, Growth Initiatives and Partner?s for Kids (PFK) departments, other hospital departments, medical staff and external organizations to ensure the availability of timely and accurate information, upon which strategic and programmatic decisions will be made. Strong data skills, including relational database management, proficiency with MS Excel and MS Access, Business Objects, and SQL programming are required. Types of reporting include monthly utilization, long term budget projections, clinical data management, regulatory mandates, accreditation efforts, contractual requirements, quality initiatives, and ad hoc requests. The Decision Support Senior analyst provides mentoring and leadership for less senior staff by assisting with supervision, providing input and feedback on staff performance, assisting with resource planning, and delegating work. The Decision Support Senior Analyst is expected to set the example in performing all job duties.

  • Data Reporting
    • Designs, develops and maintains databases and reports, including monthly and annual standard utilization reports.
    • Assists in forecasting demographics, demand for services and capacity for short and long-range strategic, programmatic and facility plans and processes
  • Supports PFK contracting, and NCH and PFK credentialing for medical staff.
    • Supports physician data activities, including productivity/RVU benchmarking, physician activity and procedure logs, clinical utilization management, Ongoing Professional Performance Evaluation, and ad hoc data requests.
    • Supports production and evaluation of data for institutional and program specific strategic plans, healthcare and utilization trends, performance of the hospital and physician network on efficient and timely healthcare delivery, quality measures, market assessments and business plans.
    • Coordinates outside actuarial and financial reporting with contracted vendors
    • Performs research and develops analyses of services by hospital and competitors, creating service line dashboards and competitor profile data sets.
    • Completes media, regulatory, and utilization surveys
    • Maintains knowledge of appropriate developmental tools, including Business Objects/Web Intelligence, SQL, MS Access, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Crystal Reports, vQuest and mapping softwareInformation Assurance
  • Assists in the assurance of information integrity, as well as in the training and evaluation process for data dissemination.
  • Understands data feeds from health plans and ensures data integrity by auditing and reconciling data with exception reports on a quarterly basis
  • Works directly with the Information Services or Partners for Kids department on data integrity issues and data development.
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA department policies, including procurement of IRB Approval, Data Use Agreements, and/or Preparatory Research Forms.
  • Works with members of Technology Trainers to research data nuances, determine patterns, quantify and communicate impact, and propose solutions for registration issues.
  • Attends monthly Data Governance meetingProject Management
    • Defines scope and development methodology for information request projects. Once developed, queries required data and presents it to requesting client in user-friendly format
    • Develops working relationships with other planners and regulatory agencies in the region and state.
    • Leads teams on large, complex projects involving cross-functional departments and external contacts.
    • Leads project scope development, status reporting and execution, facilitates meetings, and manages customer expectations.

    • Sets the example for establishing a team atmosphere with the Data Resource Center and other Hospital departments by interacting with others in an honest and straightforward manner, listening to and valuing the opinions and ideas of others, and helping others to accomplish goals.

    • Sets the example in establishing and maintaining a professional demeanor and being accountable for performance.
    • Sets the example and provides leadership when working with other staff in functional or cross-functional teams to meet goals, objectives and responsibilities.
    • Mentors and trains DRC and other staff members in areas of data reporting, not limited to Enterprise Data Warehouse and Partners for Kids datasets.
    • Develops training materials for EDW/PFK reporting and mapping applications.





  • At least 3 years data reporting experience in a health care environment is required.
  • Bachelor's and Master's Degrees required.
  • Possible fields of study include Hospital/Health Administration, Business Administration, Planning, Statistics, Health Information Management, Health Informatics, Statistics, Actuary Science or other related field required.

Required Experience:

  • Strong skills in data management systems and extensive spreadsheet, database and presentation graphics knowledge required.
  • Skilled in relational database management, reporting software tools (Business Objects, Crystal Reports)
  • SQL programming and MS Excel and MS Access are required.
  • Familiarity with hospital coding systems (including ICD, CPT, MSDRG, APRDRG) as well as experience using medical terminology.
  • Analytical skills to assemble, evaluate and understand large and complex information, and to identify current and future trends.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills to effectively interact with external contacts, administrators, medical staff, and employees at all levels.
  • Strong project management skills required.

Minimum Physical Requirement:

  • Physical ability to tolerate a high percentage of time in sedentary work at a desk.
