Biostatistician- Center for Injury Research and Policy

Full time: Main Campus; Mon-Fri 8 AM – 5 PM

 

We are seeking a Biostatistician- The Center for Injury Research and Policy, located in The Research Institute of Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking a Biostatistician position in injury research. The person in this position will work on research projects under the supervision of the principal investigator, Dr. Ginger Yang. Dr. Yang’s research focuses on injury and violence prevention and control among youth and adolescents, primarily on sports injury prevention and control and teen driving safety. Her research mainly funded by NIH ad CDC is highly collaborative and includes collaboration with researchers from other departments in The Ohio State University, and practitioners from state and community agencies and healthcare institutions. The Center for Injury Research and Policy is one of 9 CDC-funded Injury Control Research Centers and focuses on the prevention of injury among children and adolescents. Its faculty members are active in injury research and prevention at local to global levels. Center faculty members teach and mentor students at The Ohio State University and from across the nation. The Center’s global injury research program includes ongoing projects with its affiliate faculty in low- and middle-income countries and a visiting scholar program. Through multiple partnerships, the Center has established collaborative networks of injury professionals regionally, nationally and globally. A translational research team helps faculty members disseminate their research findings.

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Collaborates with faculty, physicians, and other health care workers on research projects including coordinating, conducting, and interpreting analyses for biomedical research projects utilizing basic and advanced statistical methods
  • Serves as database manager for grants and projects that is directly involved; works on data curation and preparation for statistical analyses 
  • Writes programs utilizing statistical programs for which no packaged software exists; develops and prepares new statistical programs targeted at needs of an ongoing project
  • Assists in writing project proposals, reports and articles for publication in journals
  • Participate in preparation of journal articles, technical reports and grant submissions
  • Assists in mentoring and supervision of junior staff; participates in teaching short courses.

Qualifications

What Are We Looking For?

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess these minimum qualifications and experience:

  • Masters of Biostatistics, or equivalent degree, with at least three years of research experience.
  • Excellent analytic skills. Proficient with statistical packages such as SAS, STATA, SPSS, R and advanced statistical programing, such as SAS base, SAS/MACRO and SAS/SQL. 
  • Strong problem solving skills and experience in database creation and data management, including using Excel, Access, Epi Info, nQuery Advisor, MINITAB, MATLAB, and JMP.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
