JOB POSTING – Post Doctoral Scientist || Zhao Lab – Center for Cardiovascular Research

Full time; 1.0 FTE

Main Campus, Columbus, OH

Specialty: Human iPSCs/Cardiovascular Development

We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Scientist  -   A postdoctoral scientist position is immediately available in Dr. Mingtao Zhao’s laboratory in the Center for Cardiovascular Research at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital/Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The Zhao lab is using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, and functional genomics (single-cell genomics) to study the molecular and genetic mechanisms of cardiovascular development and congenital heart disease (PNAS 2017, PMID: 29203658; Circ Res 2017, PMID: 29030344; Stem Cells 2020, PMID: 32232889). The goal of the Zhao lab is to elucidate the cause-consequence relationship of a given genetic variant in regulatory elements (such as enhancers) in the contribution of cardiovascular disease using patient-derived iPSCs that retain all genetic information of the patients.

This is a great opportunity for young investigators who aim to establish an independent academic career in the next few years. Successful candidates should have a PhD/MD or equivalent degree (< 1 year after graduation) and should have solid expertise in cardiac physiology, cardiac development, and stem cells. Candidates with at least two first-author research articles published in the major peer-reviewed journals are required. Candidates must have the ability to write manuscripts and grants independently. Candidates who have additional expertise in bioinformatics or CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing or tissue engineering would be preferred.

The Center for Cardiovascular Research currently has a NIH-funded T32 postdoctoral program to provide interdisciplinary, translational, and state-of-the-art research training in congenital and acquired heart disease, partnered with The Ohio State University College of Medicine. The Abigail Wexner Research Institute is one of the largest pediatric research centers and consistently ranked among the top 10 for NIH funding among free-standing children’s hospitals in the United States. In addition, Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit pediatric healthcare networks and is ranked 8th on the US News & World Report’s “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll”.
