Full time - 1st Shift - Non-Exempt

Main Campus – Columbus, OH

 

We are seeking a Research Assistant -   The lab is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to perform basic and translational research in the area of pediatric asthma. The successful applicant is expected to perform research experiments, maintain records of experiments, analyze data, and assist in preparation of grants and manuscripts.

What Will You Be Doing?

Perform research experiments independently or semi-independently in accordance with protocols approved by the principal investigator.  Experiments will involve the use of isolated human or mouse primary cell culture lines and laboratory animals. These may require evening and/or weekend duties.

 

Collect and process human lung tissue, blood and other biospecimens as needed. Isolate cells from human tissue specimens or blood for establishment of cell culture and use for research studies. Such activities may be performed independently and may require evening and weekend hours.

 

Maintain mouse husbandry and perform animal experiments.

 

Perform standard molecular, biochemical, and imaging techniques (qRT PCR, Western blot, ELISA, IHC, etc.). Perform additional duties as appropriate.

 

Collects and controls experimental data and relevant subject information; maintains accurate daily logs of experiments including methods, results, and conclusions; and maintains organized data files.

 

Interprets the results of data analyses with input from the principal investigator.

 

Assist the principal investigator in the preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals and establishing, optimizing, and refining standard laboratory techniques.

 

Orders supplies needed to conduct research; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; and assures that research equipment is in good working order. Conduct experiments within budgetary constraints.

 

Instructs other laboratory workers and students in standard methods, practices, procedures, and equipment operations.

 

Maintains a clean working area and performs general laboratory maintenance.  Adheres to proper safety techniques and procedures.

 

Qualifications

What Are We Looking For?

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess these minimum qualifications and experience:

·        Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of science from an accredited college.

·        Six months to two years of relevant laboratory experience is preferred.

·        Coursework in biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology, genetics, statistics, and/or other biology-related research methodology is desirable.

Minimum Physical Requirements:

 

Percent of time spent on:

70%     Preparing maintaining cell cultures, performing experiments for cell and animal studies

10%     Interpreting results of data analyses with PI

10%     Miscellaneous paperwork associated with research

05%     Ordering supplies

05%     Instructing other lab personnel

 

Minimum physical requirements:

100%    Kneeling / reaching

100%    Finger dexterity

100%    Talking / hearing / seeing

  33%    Lifting / carrying weight 0-20 pounds for 1-5 minutes
