We are seeking an Orthodontic Assistant - The Orthodontic Assistant is responsible for providing chair side assistance to the Provider. Performs routine orthodontic procedures in a fast-paced, growing orthodontic practice. Candidate should be comfortable working with medically compromised conditions including but not limited to complex craniofacial anomalies. Candidate should have familiarity with laboratory duties, such as pouring/trimming models. Candidate should have a working knowledge of billing, authorizations, scheduling and maintain appropriate infection control.

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Room patient. Provide synopsis of patient, current status and any change or problems experienced by the patient and communicates any pertinent patient information to Provider.
  • Take diagnostic intraoral and extraoral photographs and catalogue as appropriate, and expose oral radiographs though the use of the MiPACS computer system (CBCT, pans, PAs, etc.).
  • Understand the fundamentals of bonding and bracket placement, how to deliver and adjust appliances, and arch wire sequence.
  • Under direction of the Provider, place separators and fits bands in preparation for fabrication of appliances, performs wire changes, reties, steel ties, c-chains and other orthodontic procedures.
  • Fit and deliver retraction and protraction headgear, take alginate impressions, pour diagnostic quality models and trim stone models, and mix stone/plaster in a Whip Mix, Pouring and trimming study models.
  • Fabricate Essix Retainers and Lingual Bonded Retainers
  • Prepare and process referrals to coordinate patient care.
  • Assemble full set of orthodontic records to submit to insurance for prior authorization. Submit/ follow up on authorization determinations as assigned.

Qualifications

What Are We Looking For?

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess these minimum qualifications and experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Orthodontic assisting experience required.
  • Certification from the State of Ohio as Dental Assistant Radiographer is a must 
  • CPR is a must 
  • Type a minimum of 40 – 70 words per minute.
  • Experience using Epic, Dolphin, Ortho Analyzer and Trios Scanner, preferred.
  • Experience in a pediatric environment and/or working with medically compromised/ complex craniofacial conditions, preferred.
  • Ability to fabricate appliances, including bending wires, preferred.

  • Lifting up to 25lbs Occasionally (0-32%)
  • Standing Constantly (67-100%)
  • Kneeling/Bending/Reaching Constantly (67-100%)
