    Genetic Counselor

    Full time Exempt: M-F Shift

     

    We are seeking a Genetic Counselor for an integrated clinical position involved in both cardiology and general genetics as well as for an integrated clinical position involved in both metabolic and general genetics.  Both positions include opportunities for teaching and research.

    What Will You Be Doing?

    • Provide clinical genetic counseling services in general genetics and clinics related to cardiovascular disease
    • Provide clinical genetic counseling services as part of a Newborn Screening and Metabolic Genetics team
    • Participate in genetic inpatient consults
    • Participate in monthly/bi-monthly outreach clinics serving Central and Southeastern Ohio
    • Supervise trainees in Medical Genetics Residency and Ohio State University Genetic Counselor Training programs as well as rotating residents, medical students, genetic counseling students, undergraduate students
    • Provide in-service education for outreach clinics, parent/community groups, and other health care professionals

    Qualifications

    What Are We Looking For?

     

    To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess these minimum qualifications and experience:

    • Two-year Master's degree in accredited program in Human Genetics, Genetic Counseling or a related field.
    • Must hold a current, valid Ohio license or a supervised practice license to practice as a genetic counselor.
    • Expertise in the principles of human genetics, including cytogenetics, molecular genetics, biochemical genetics, and human growth and development.
    • Excellent interviewing and non-directive counseling skills.
    • Extensive knowledge of social, legal, and ethical issues in genetics.
    • Board-Certified or eligible (if graduated in the last 3 years) to sit for the Genetic Counseling Board Examination administered by the American Board of Genetic Counselors.
    • Ability to draw a multigenerational pedigree, or family tree, preferably using a template as a guide.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft office and Electronic Medical Record.
