    We are seeking a Genetic Technologist II - This position is responsible for performance of routine and complex laboratory analyses, quality control, operational improvement, preventative maintenance and education within the Institute for Genomic Medicine.  The Genetic Technologist II will participate in new assay planning, development, and validation.

    What Will You Be Doing?


    • Technical and computer work required for molecular/cytogenetic analysis using research databases, LIS, LIMS, Co Path and/or other related software.
    • Complex prep, sequencing and use of imaging systems.
    • Review completed cases and summarize results; Perform secondary technical review prior to sign-out
    • Prepare written results of work completed; Oral reports when appropriate
    • Training and coaching for IGM laboratories; education opportunities to maintain ASCP certifications
    • Refinement of current, standard protocols and create new protocols for implementation of molecular cytogenetic diagnostic tests for research purposes into routine, clinical laboratory


    What Are We Looking For?


    To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess these minimum qualifications and experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science; or a chemical, physical or biological science from an accredited institution and American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certified as an MT (ASCP), MB(ASCP) or CG(ASCP). If hired based on experience, certification exam must be completed within 2 years of start date.
    • Minimum 5 years laboratory experience in cytogenetics, molecular genetics or molecular biology
    • Knowledge of and upholding applicable laws and regulation related to the IGM labs
    • Ability to change communication styles to adapt to various cultural differences

    Minimum Physical Requirements:


    • Sitting Constantly (67-100%)
    • Talking on phone/in person constantly (67-100%)
    • Typing on a keyboard occasionally (0-33%)
    • Standing/walking occasionally (0-33%)

    MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to stand for more than 1 hour at a time, sit for more than 1 hour at a time. Good visual and auditory acuity. Full use of hands and arms. Ability to speak clearly. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally. Must complete color blind testing.
