    We're Seeking a Research Assistant in Gene Therapy 


    Conducts research in development of gene therapy for neuromuscular disorders decided upon by the Principal Investigator; prepares research reports; assists in the preparation of scientific publications and research grant proposals; prepares budget proposals for conducting research studies.

    • Conducts gene therapy research and laboratory analysis agreed upon with the principal investigator. Molecular biology skills are essential for cloning, characterization, and testing of new plasmids and viral vectors. Biochemical and cell biology skills are preferred but not required. Conduct in vitro and in vivo experiments using gene therapy virus vectors (Adeno-associated virus).


    • Sets up research experiments and arranges for animals to be used in research experiments through appropriate research institute procedures. Performs research experiments independently in accordance with protocols approved by the principal investigator. Such experiments may involve the use of laboratory animals and may, on occasion, require evening and/or weekend duties.


    • Collects and analyzes data in accordance with appropriate statistical procedures, and prepares reports, inclusive of graphs, tables, and photographs, of the results of studies. Ensures accuracy of laboratory analytical procedures as required by specific research projects.


    • Assists in the preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals with regard to a specific area of research. Makes recommendations about refinement and/or replacement of laboratory analytical procedures. Implements such refinements or new procedures with input from the principal investigator.


    • Orders supplies needed to conduct research; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; and assures that research equipment is in good working order.


    • Maintains a clean working area and performs general laboratory maintenance. Adheres to proper safety techniques and procedures.


    • Bachelor of Science degree, preferably with one to two years of laboratory research experience.
    • Must be able to use research methods in generating and collecting data and analyzing the data for report preparation.
    • Must be able to develop research reports, and help in preparation of research grant proposals and scientific publications.
    • Coursework in biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, anatomy, physiology, statistics, relevant research methods and radiation desirable. Must be computer literate.


    MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Percent of time spent on: 60% Conducting research studies 25% Collecting and analyzing data 10% Preparing reports and miscellaneous paperwork associated with research 05% Purchasing supplies Minimum physical requirements: 100% Kneeling / reaching 100% Finger dexterity 100% Talking / hearing / seeing 33% Lifting / carrying weight 0-20 pounds for 1-5 minutes
