    Central Pharmacy Operations includes oversight of main pharmacy operations, TPN and main IV room operations.  This position would require interaction/collaboration on training and oversight of technician leadership in conjunction with the other management team members.

    The Pharmacy Manager I functions to lead all aspects of the services in the assigned team within the Department of Pharmacy. The person in this position manages pharmacy technicians, interns, and pharmacists. Activities include personnel management, policy and procedure development, performance evaluation coordination, service problem identification and resolution, participation in strategic planning and quality improvement processes. The Manager develops and implements programs to monitor and evaluate the quality of services provided; to assure compliance with practice standards; and develops and implements the Department?s goals. Patient population includes neonatal, pediatric, and select adult patients. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

    Responsibilities

    Provides leadership to the inpatient pharmacy staff. Works closely with the medical and patient care services staff in relevant patient care areas to ensure that quality services are being provided and that these services meet the needs of the patient populations. Along with the staff, and medical and patient care services staffs, identifies and resolves pharmacy-related service problems. Establishes operational performance standards, monitors and initiates performance improvement when indicated, such as in dispensing accuracy, turnaround time, etc. Continually assesses and changes as needed workflow relative to departmental performance and standards of practice, assuring the efficient and timely completion of tasks and duties of assigned team. Evaluates the cost impact of services and related supplies and develops and recommends long-range financial strategies to the Director. Develops annual and long-range goals and objectives for the Pharmacy Department in conjunction with the Director, Pharmacy Services; other Managers; Clinical Coordinator, and Pharmacy Clinical Leads. Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, Joint Commission standards and hospital infection control policies governing pharmacy practice. Prepares areas of responsibility for Joint Commission surveys. Assists with preparation of the annual budget; monitors financial performance of responsible areas and works to establish corrective fiscal plans when necessary. Adjusts workflow and staff as necessary to cover call offs; calls in additional personnel when deemed necessary. Assists in preparation of the pharmacist, pharmacy technician, pharmacy intern and pharmacy transporter work schedules; approves paid time off and schedule switch requests. Completes bi-weekly time and attendance records for the payroll department. In coordination with the clinical lead, as applicable, evaluates the performance of pharmacists, pharmacy interns, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy transporters. Coordinates recruitment, interviewing and selection of new applicants for staff pharmacist, pharmacy interns, and pharmacy technician positions. Coordinates, with the Clinical Lead, the orientation and training of new staff pharmacists, pharmacy interns, and pharmacy technicians. Participates in Pharmacy Administrator On-Call.  Assures environmental cleanliness for pharmacy areas. Manages the use of overtime efficiently. Develops and enforces policies and procedure for the area of responsibility. Precepts pharmacy residents and students. Participates in hospital committees, local, state, and national pharmacy organizations and/or programs related to pharmacy practice.

    Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    Doctor of Pharmacy (preferred) or Bachelors Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy Masters degree (MS, MBA, MHA, et al) and/or completion of a pharmacy residency program preferred. Three years of experience as a hospital pharmacy manager or coordinator preferred (pediatrics preferred)  Current and unrestricted Licensure, or licensure-eligibility, to practice pharmacy in the state of Ohio. Demonstration of strong clinical and managerial skills.  Excellent organizational and time management skills, Knowledgeable of the full range of pharmacy operations throughout the department and maintain an awareness of developing trends in the field. This individual must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate their staff
