The Besner laboratory is searching for a post-doctoral fellow to continue NIH-funded research studies in necrotizing enterocolitis. The Besner laboratory focuses on novel therapeutic strategies to protect the intestines from injury, with a focused interest in neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis, the leading cause of death in premature babies. Studies are conducted at the molecular biology, cell biology, and whole animal model levels. We are specifically interested in a therapeutic strategy to treat this disease using a novel probiotic delivery systems. Other areas of interest include stem cell therapy and growth factor therapy. Dr. Besner's research has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health since 1994. The successful candidate will have previous experience in animal handling, cell biology and molecular biology. The candidate will be expected to actively participate in animal models of disease including necrotizing enterocolitis, so must be very comfortable and capable of working with animals.
