Performs a variety of general duties assisting the pharmacist with providing drugs, related supplies and equipment to home care patients; assists in maintenance of adequate inventory of supplies in the home environment. Demonstrates competencies defined (*) in NCHH Pharmacy Technician responsibilities in providing age-appropriate care to patients from the age of birth through 21 years, and select adult patients.
*1. Performs preparation of I.V. admixtures under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. 2. Maintains clean room, I.V. preparation area, and pharmacy equipment cleanliness in accordance with NCH policies and procedures, JC standards, USP 797 Guidelines and OSHA requirements. 3. Maintains equipment and supplies inventory in cooperation with NCHH Pharmacists, and NCHH HME Supervisor. 4. Maintains equipment maintenance records in accordance with NCHH policies, manufacturer's guidelines, FDA regulations, and JC standards. Cleans & tests equipment in accordance with NCH policies and procedures, FDA and OSHA regulations, and JC standards. 5. performs packaging drugs and solutions under the supervision of a NCHH Pharmacist. 6. Reconstitutes injectable medication using sterile technique, performs necessary labeling and control procedures according to established policies.*7. Assembles ancillary supplies necessary to provide infusion therapy in the home prior to delivery to the home. 8. Delivers and retrieves drugs, supplies, and equipment from individual patients' homes.*9. Monitors home inventory of supplies and equipment. Coordinates with NCHH Customer Service concerning appropriate supply provision and delivery.*10. Assists in maintaining adequate inventory of all pharmacy products to meet patient care requirements. Keeps accurate records of all purchasing/receiving activities/statuses. Ensures storage and distribution to designated NCHH personnel and patients in accordance with NCHH standards established by Ohio State Board of Pharmacy and JC.11. Receives all pharmacy items and ensures accuracy of deliveries in terms of product specifications and quantities. Works with purchasing and/or outside vendors to resolve product errors and/or shortages. Communicates shortages of products and provides substitutions of products to respective areas as needed under direction of a pharmacist or nurse.12. Conducts market search for new products; finds vendors and detailed information about the product.13. Verifies invoices, receives supplies and stocks shelves in the pharmacy area.14. Selects most expeditious and cost effective delivery routes to ensure prompt and accurate deliveries.15. Assists in the maintenance of the NCHH van; regularly checks tires, oil, water, gas, belts and battery; and maintains both interior and exterior cleanliness.16. Assists, as appropriate, in complying with applicable: federal, state and local laws; Medicare / Medicaid Conditions of Participation; JC standards; State of Ohio Day Care Licensing; State of Ohio Waiver regulations; and any other appropriate accrediting or regulatory body.17. Participates as directed in marketing efforts and community endeavors.18. Participates in drills (including fire, bomb, tornado, weather disaster, community disaster, etc.) and ICES Rounds and follow up, as directed, to ensure the safety of patients, families, staff, students, vendors, visitors to the NCH buildings, etc. 19. Promotes, models and participates in NCH customer service initiatives; fosters patient / parent / caregiver, payor, provider and other community relationships through using effective communication and collaboration skills; and openly and willingly provides NCH staff and managers with customer feedback, in an appropriate and goal-oriented way.20. Actively participates in NCHH continuous quality and performance improvement activities under the direction of the QI Coordinator and respective manager(s) (including event tracking and reporting, patient case conferences, performance improvement teams, customer satisfaction surveys, utilization review activities, etc.)21. Conducts self in a manner that supports good patient relations and projects a professional image consistent with NCHH standards.22. Maintains at all times the rights of the patient / family regarding confidentiality of the medical record, according to policy.23. Supports the philosophy, mission, policies, procedures, standards, and strategic goals of NCH and NCHH; participates, as directed, in short and long-range planning and NCH strategic goal development, implementation and evaluation.24. Manages own learning and skills related to existing and new computer systems, as appropriate, including becoming proficient in NT / Outlook and Microsoft Office.25. Participates in general and department staff meetings, committee work and other related activities as assigned.26. Participates in technician on call rotation.27. Performs other duties as assigned, including the assumption of new duties commensurate with the growth of the agency.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School graduate with formal training as a pharmacy technician.2. One year experience in basic pharmacy operation and experience in I.V. solution preparation.3. Excellent communications skills required to interact with staff, patients/families, and vendors.4. Above average math skills.5. Valid Ohio drivers' license.6.
